Re-developing the Victorian pier and world record holding train to create a community hub and tourist attraction.

We have started our community “journey” by completing the make over of the ticket office, protecting both pier buildings against further deterioration, restoring two train carriages and one train tractor unit. We have also commissioned multiple surveys of the pier to ensure we understand the nature of the challenges to come in the restoration. Our recent projects are:

  • Completion of the replacement of the most complex part of the train track and repairs to the pier structure, which will ensure the continued safe operation of the train and continued use of the pier. The project was opened by His Royal Highness The Duke of Gloucester KG GCVO in October 2024
  • Ongoing restoration of a third train carriage
  • Restoration and naming of the second locomotive that is now named “Edward Fort”

The further restoration of the pier will benefit the high street and town of Hythe. Our plans will always provide the support for the historic ferry service to continue to operate.
