Temporary protection of the waiting room building
This project aimed to protect north side building on Hythe’s Victorian Pier (built in 1894) to prevent further deterioration. Although this work is a temporary fix, it offers protection to prevent further damage while plans are put in place and funding raised for a permanent restoration in the future.
The floor inside the waiting room was also repaired using timbers moved from the south side (“ballroom”) building.
History of the north side
The building was built in 1896 as part of an extension to the pier head facilities.
